TechNew Apple leak reveals iPhone 15 upgrade warning0 by BBC NewsMay 21, 2023May 21, 2023 iPhone 15 leaks have revealed a mix of exciting upgrades and incremental changes. But now Apple fans are being warned not to buy any iPhone 15 model. Influential leaker Unknownz21, who has consistently provided accurate information on the last two generations of iPhones, warned users who: “The whole 15 range is well worth a look – especially the base models.” Not because of any defects, it’s just a very mediocre upgrade. I wish I could explain the details, but I can’t…” Unknownz21 quotes what happened to fellow leak analyst941 as the reason why they can’t explain this. Analyst941 was a relatively recent but equally accurate leaker caught by Apple in a sting operation. According to Analyst941, Apple provided inaccurate but slightly different information to several employees. When analyst941 leaked the information they obtained, the details led Apple to the leaker’s brother who worked at Apple. Analyst941 claims that their sibling was immediately fired and the whistleblower subsequently deleted their account. It was just the latest in a series of Apple crackdowns that have significantly shrunk the leak pool in recent years. However, Unknownz21’s experience means their comments are worth taking seriously. The author’s disdain for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus is perhaps not surprising. Based on Unknownz21’s own leaks and photos, these models will be cheaper versions of the iPhone 14 Pro, using last year’s A16 chipset and switching to the perforated Dynamic Island design. Unknownz21 also leaked the new periscope lens for the iPhone 15 Pro Max and Apple’s decision to ditch its ambitious solid-state volume buttons for both Pro models. USB-C is also expected to be strictly locked down, something Apple has already received a warning from the European Union for open standards. However, it remains to be seen what deal breaker the leaker holds back. A different possibility is the price. Apple has been hotly tipped to increase the prices of the iPhone 15, especially the Pro models, but the company could use specific pricing details to identify more insiders. Either way, Unknownz21’s declaration is sure to get iPhone fans talking — especially with bigger changes already expected in the iPhone 16.
