Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart were involved in an awkward seating error at the Indiana Jones premiere in Cannes.
On Thursday (May 18) Indiana Jones and the Dial of Fate had its world premiere at the French film festival, welcoming star Ford alongside his wife Flockhart, his co-stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Mads Mikkelsen, and director James Mangold.
When Ford entered the hall, he received a standing ovation and walked to his seat next to Flockhart.
However, when they got to their seats there seemed to be some confusion as Flockhart’s name could be seen written on a strap which was placed on the seat behind Ford’s.
It seems the couple assumed they would be seated together.
Footage of their confusion was shared on social media by New York TimesKyle Buchanan, who wrote: “Awkward moment at INDIANA JONES premiere when Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart arrive at his seat and she realizes Kahn has given her a row behind him.”
Ford, 80, then received an honorary Palme d’Or, before thanking Flockhart, 58, for “making his dreams possible”. The couple has been married since 2010.
After a highlight reel of Ford’s greatest performances played on the screen behind him, he joked, “They say when you’re about to die, you see your life pass before your eyes. I just saw my life before my eyes.”
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Fate, which received a five-minute standing ovation, divided critics. I find The Independentthe verdict is here.
It is the first film in the franchise that launched with the kidnappers of the missing ark in 1981, which was not directed by Steven Spielberg.
The previous Indiana Jones movie, Indiana Jones in the Kingdom of the Crystal Skullwas panned by critics upon its release in 2008.
