Glastonbury 2023 kicks off in earnest today with all eyes on Somerset as the world’s biggest green grass music festival returns. And as always there’s a full line-up with today’s bill offering huge names from rock, pop, R&B, dance and more.
Headlining the Pyramid Stage will be Arctic Monkeys, who return as headliners for the third time. Fresh from their first stadium tour, if recent setlists are anything to go by, the Sheffield quartet are likely to treat the crowd to a set of their best-known songs plus one or two from their 2022 album. The carwho developed a less riff-dependent, more slanted sound than their previous album Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino.
Heavy rock duo Royal Blood will front Arctics on the Pyramid Stage – hopefully in better spirits than they were on Radio 1’s Big Weekend, when singer Mike Kerr slammed the audience for a perceived lackluster response to a moment that went viral. They will follow a mysterious band called The Churnups, who have inspired much speculation with fans suggesting they could be anyone from the Foo Fighters to Blur or Pulp.
The Other Stage will be headlined by Afropop star Wizkid, fronting a group that also includes Fred Again…, Chvrches and Carly Rae Jepsen. Kelis, Young Fathers and Gabriels are among the standout names on the West Holts Stage, while Woodsies – formerly the John Peel Stage – offers Hot Chip, Warpaint, Courteeners and Pale Waves, as well as another tantalizing ‘TBA’ list.
Notable acts on the Park Stage include shape-shifting Swedish electronic act Fever Ray and veteran duo Sparks promoting their 25th studio album The girl is crying into her latte as well as undoubtedly bringing down the house with hits such as This Town Ain’t Big Enough For Both of Us.
