It’s official. Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez are engaged.
Starting their life together, the Amazon boss popped the question to his Emmy-winning journalist girlfriend aboard his $500 million superyacht, sources told DailyMail.com.
The pair were seen kissing and making out aboard the Coru over the weekend, as Sanchez, 53, struggled to hide the Balearic-sized rock glistening on her ring finger – sparkling proof she said ‘I do’ “.
The newly engaged couple were photographed off the coast of Cannes, enjoying a Mediterranean odyssey and the maiden voyage of Bezos’ half-billion-dollar superyacht.
At 417 feet long and 230 feet high, Koru is one of the largest sailing yachts in the world, equipped with a 250-foot support vessel that boasts its own helipad.
The pair flew to Europe on a private jet and were first spotted on the deck of the superyacht last weekend.
In no deliberate understatement, the man who built his own space rocket gave a not-so-subtle hint that this trip will be all about Sanchez, as Bezos, 59, commissioned a rounded shape for the bow of the boat.
It is not clear when the gold-polished wood sculpture became part of the vessel’s design, but the yacht was commissioned in 2018, a year before Bezos and Sanchez’s affair was exposed by the National Enquirer in a wave of scandals that ended their marriages.
The story was published on January 9, 2019. Earlier that day, Bezos and his then-wife, Mackenzie Tuttle, 53, tweeted that they were separating and that the separation after 25 years of marriage was “amicable”.
Around the same time, Sanchez told her then-husband Patrick Whitesell, 58, the truth about her relationship with Bezos and revealed that she had been approached for comment by the Enquirer.
Bezos was introduced to Sanchez, then the longtime host of Fox’s “Good Morning LA,” in 2016 by his friend, her husband Whitesell, co-CEO of Hollywood talent agency WME.
While the couples Bezos and McKenzie and Sanchez and Whitesell socialized together, like unwitting spouses each considered the other a friend.
As a result of the revelation of the affair, the marriages of Bezos and Sanchez fell apart
Novelist Tuttle walked away with a $35.6 billion settlement, most of which she pledged to give to charitable causes. She married Seattle science teacher Dan Jewett, though the marriage ended in September 2022.
But while the beginning of their relationship may have been tumultuous, it seems things are going smoothly for Bezos and Sanchez these days.
Pictured on the deck of Koru, a name that means “coil” or “loop” in Maori and refers to the unfurling of fern leaves, the two looked more in love than ever.
Fittingly, the koru design, which is common in traditional Maori art, is meant to symbolize new life, growth and peace.
Photos taken of Bezos and Sanchez enjoying the sun, surf and luxuries of life on the high seas show them kissing and tenderly touching each other as they bask aboard their personal love boat.
Dressed casually, with Bezos looking like a granny in swim shorts and Sanchez in bikinis or a casual top with a vest and pants, the pair seem intent on keeping their vacation low-key as a million-dollar experience, exploring some of the most beautiful coastlines in the world can be viewed.
Coru was handed over to Bezos last month. It underwent sea trials in February and is the second-largest sailing vessel in the world – surpassed only by the Philipp Starke-designed Sailing Yacht A, which is owned by Russian fertilizer billionaire Andrei Melnichenko.
Last year, before Koru was even launched, the sheer size of her masts sparked international controversy when Rotterdam announced that the middle section of the 100-year-old Koningshaven Bridge would be removed to allow the superyacht to make its way into the North Sea.
Bezos reportedly said he would pay to have the bridge dismantled and rebuilt, but his request was denied.
Angry locals have also set up a petition to target the rotten egg boat on its maiden voyage – which has garnered thousands of signatures.
Responding to the backlash, Rotterdam Mayor Ahmed Abutaleb said no permit application was made and the masts were eventually attached downstream in the port of Rotterdam.
The three-masted schooner yacht was finally delivered at the end of April and sailed from the Netherlands to Majorca via Gibraltar.
Along with a private submarine, Koru sails a smaller 250-foot support vessel that is equipped with a helipad and stocked with a collection of speedboats and supercars for Bezos and Sanchez to enjoy.
The main ship, which is painted midnight blue and has gold accents, has three decks, a swimming pool and a huge sun deck – the same one Bezos and Sanchez were seen using earlier this week.
The interior was reportedly inspired by the Eos, a 305-foot yacht owned by former Fox executive Barry Diller, and the megayacht costs $25 million a year to maintain.
