Madonna looks frail in recent photos shared online before being rushed to intensive care with a “serious” infection.

The 64-year-old singer came down with a “serious bacterial infection” earlier this week.

The superstar was gearing up for her upcoming tour, which was supposed to celebrate 40 years since her first album, before it was postponed.

Just a few days earlier, Madonna shared a series of photos on Instagram, captioning them: “The calm before the storm………”.

She is believed to have worked 12-hour days and “rehearsed hard” for weeks, according to Page Six.

One image shows her lying on the floor with her eyes closed during rehearsals.

It comes after Madonna’s family said they feared she would die after being admitted to intensive care.

Guy O’Seery, her talent manager, said in a statement: “On Saturday June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which resulted in a several-day stay in intensive care.

“Her health is improving but she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected.

“At this time we will have to put all commitments on hold, which includes the tour. We will share more details with you as soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and rescheduled concerts.”

Madonna’s family members are said to be “preparing for the worst” as she was intubated overnight.

“Over the last few days, no one really knew which way this was going to turn and her family was preparing for the worst,” a relative told MailOnline.

“That’s why it’s been kept secret since Saturday. Everyone believed we could lose her and that was the reality of the situation.”
