Russia has accused Ukraine of being behind a drone attack that damaged at least two buildings in the capital Moscow early Monday morning.
The Russian Defense Ministry said two drones were “suppressed and destroyed”, adding that there were no casualties.
Russia’s state-run TASS news agency reported that a drone had crashed near the Defense Ministry.
Ukrainian officials have not yet commented, but they rarely claim responsibility for attacks in Russia.
In a separate development, Russian-appointed officials ordered people to evacuate an area of Crimea – the southern Ukrainian peninsula annexed by Moscow in 2014 – after a reported overnight attack by a Ukrainian drone.
Kremlin-appointed regional head Sergei Aksenov said an ammunition depot was hit in the northern Dzhankoy district and residents of nearby villages were told to leave their homes. He reported no casualties.
Russia has launched near-constant attacks on the Odessa region – home to Ukraine’s major Black Sea ports – since Russia pulled out of a landmark grain deal last week.
In Moscow, the city’s mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, said drone strikes in the Russian capital hit “two non-residential” buildings around 04:00 local time (01:00 GMT). In a post on social media, he added that the buildings did not suffer major damage.
But state news agencies reported that some drone fragments were found just 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) from the defense ministry buildings.
“The attempt by the Kyiv regime to carry out a terrorist act with two drones on objects in the territory of the city of Moscow was stopped,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
Russian news agencies reported that drone debris was also found along Komsomolsky Prospekt in the city. Moscow’s transport department wrote on Telegram that traffic along the route was blocked and photos showed emergency services working at the scene.
Traffic was also stopped along Likhachov Boulevard, where a tall office building was damaged. Footage released on the military TV channel “Zvezda” shows missing windows at the top of the building.
Moscow has accused Ukraine of multiple drone attacks on its territory in recent months.
And in May, Kiev denied carrying out a drone attack on the Kremlin, which Russia said amounted to an assassination attempt on President Vladimir Putin.
Monday’s attack comes just a day after Russia attacked Odessa with missile strikes, destroying the historic Transfiguration Cathedral.
UNESCO, the UN’s cultural agency, said it was “deeply alarmed and condemns in the strongest terms” the attack on the historic center of Odessa.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky vowed revenge for the attack.
“They will definitely feel it,” he said during his overnight address from Kiev. “The target of all these missiles is not only cities, villages or people. Their goal is humanity and the foundations of our entire European culture.”
