Several crew members on the set of the Gladiator sequel in Morocco suffered “non-life-threatening injuries” during a “stunt sequence,” the film’s production company said.

Several people were injured on the set of the Gladiator sequel after a “stunt sequence” went wrong.

The film’s production company, Paramount Pictures, said: “During filming of a planned stunt sequence on the set of the ‘Gladiator’ sequel, an incident occurred in which several crew members sustained non-life threatening injuries.”

“The safety and full medical teams on the ground were able to act quickly so that those affected received the necessary care immediately.

“All are in a stable condition and continue to receive treatment.

“The welfare of our cast and crew is of the utmost importance to us and we have strict health and safety procedures in place across all our productions.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and take all necessary precautions as we resume production.”

Sir Ridley Scott, who directed the original award-winning film, returns for the second installment.

The sequel, which does not yet have an official title, is being shot in Morocco.

It will star Irish actor Paul Mezcal and, according to US media, Oscar winner Denzel Washington, The Last of Us star Pedro Pascal, Stranger Things actor Joseph Quinn and Connie Nielsen, who starred in the original.

In the first film, Crowe starred as the Roman general Maximus Decimus Meridius alongside Joaquin Phoenix as Emperor Commodus and Richard Harris as Emperor Marcus Aurelius.

The original film was released in 2000, and its sequel is expected to hit theaters in late 2024.
