Inquest launched after body found in Derbyshire nature reserve

The body of an elderly woman was found in a nature reserve on the outskirts of a Derbyshire town. Officers responded to a call from a member of the public on Monday June 26 that a body had been found near Ilkeston.

Just after 7:40am, Derbyshire Police were called to Straws Bridge Nature Reserve following a report that a body had been found. A woman, in her 70s, was discovered in the water.

She was pronounced dead at the scene by East Midlands Ambulance Service paramedics. The force has launched an investigation into her death.

However, there are believed to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding the woman’s death. Anyone living in the area who may have witnessed something should contact the police by calling 101 or using any other non-emergency contact method, quoting the reference number 23*391272.

A Derbyshire Police spokesperson said: “We were called by a member of the public on Monday June 26, just after 7.40am, at Straws Bridge Nature Reserve in Ilkeston following a report that a body had been found. A woman, aged in her 70s, was discovered in the water and pronounced dead at the scene by East Midlands Ambulance Service paramedics.

“An investigation into his death has been launched, however we do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. Anyone living in the area who may have witnessed anything should contact us, quoting reference number 23*391272. ”
